Gian Merlevede About the Expo Painting artist Gian Merlevede generally focusses on themes through his body of work. Which means, a painting is tailor cut designed on the basis of a given subject. That way, it's the artist's overall understanding of the proposed visual metaphor that guides the building process. A balance exercise between ratio and intuition. However, this art exhibition only shows free style paintings. There's no theme imposed, and in line with that no titles are given (apart form a few exceptions). Viewers have to find out for themselves what each work possibly means and evokes. Though the artist directed and refined each piece, he nevertheless admits they are open-ended. Playfulness and visual organics were chosen over analysis. All pictures were painted on canvas with acrylics and varnished with UV-protective layers. Formats measure respectively 18x24 or 50x60 cm. → View All |

About the Expo
Simone Distler - She's an artist working with gusto in both oils and acrylics. In this exhibition she presents a selection of her graphic prints. Recently she experimented with woodcut prints on canvas. As well as combining etchings with embossed collages. Frequently her pictures show an overlap of places and situations. Her goal is to find suitable forms, expressing life's processes. The piece Faint Luminescence / Schwaches Leuchten deals with the issue of lacking clarity. Fences, doors and alleys emerge or dissapear. Different levels more or less mask eachother. The viewer has to find his own way and orientational grid. The airiness of the colors pushes the dense fog. The eye wanders continuously. Finding crossovers, bits and pieces of clarity, or at least the memory of clarity, the confidence that life continues. The graphic prints speak about the moody oscillations of the human soul, the atmosphere of realtionships - e.g. Wrestling Soul / When die Seele ringt.
