Future Dreamings
About
I made this tryptich Future-dreamings as part of my study at the Sint Lukas School of Art and Design Antwerp, Belgium.
The assignment was to make a tryptich with panels of 40 x 40 cm. We had to illustrate three lines out of a song of our choice.
The Dutch song I choose, is called ´Future-dreamings´. It is written by the Dutch singersongwriter Wim Bevelander. It goes as follows:
"So many people keep searching, fearing the final discovery.
So many are afraid that truth exists.
So many people have doubts, hoping for conviction never to come.
So many people think they already managed.
So many people keep silent, though they would like to scream in sorrow.
They keep signalling, while nobody picks up.
So many people are waking, thoughts collapsing in their minds.
So many people asleep, while the thief comes in the night.
What they ought to know, where they ought to be,
What´s the final destination of the voyage... stays unknown. (2x)
So many people keep working their future, dream of the perfect job.
They build on a foundation, yet softly slip away.
So many people around me feel insecure and totally scared;
From the outside they look confident, yet they really feel so insignificant."
The 3 lines I picked, were (in the paintings left to right):
1) ´So many people keep silent, though they would like to scream in sorrow´.
2) ´From the outside they look confident, yet they really feel so insignificant´.
3) ´So many are afraid that truth exists´.
Alle texts were printed out on the panels with silkscreen in cupper-coloured paint.
On the back cover, I painted a further image with ´crossing fists´. These symbolize mankind locked up inside, and his refusal to open up to himself, to his neighbours, and finally to his Creator.
